Food combining… Have any of you heard about this ? It talks about how to combine your food to best aid your digestive based on the combination of food you eat and the environment in your stomach, reducing the chance of food not digesting and sitting in your stomach, thus causing it to ferment in there, creating a chain event of an unhappy digestive system. There is more to this chart, looking at how to eat fruit and when to eat various meals as well. That is my very rough cliff notes version. It had helped me , so go do some research on it or if you have done it, share your thoughts. #crohnsdisease #crohns #ulcerativecolitis #ostomy #jpouch #foodcombining
Update: Hey Everyone, So you have all been so supportive of me this last week, finding out humira isn’t working, then me hitting a wall and now I am feeling a new sense of hope and feel myself standing on my two feet. I wanted to thank you all for all those kind messages and comments, each one truly touched my heart.
So here is the plan for the next two weeks: Stop humira. Discuss potential cimzia or remi in two weeks with GI. I will now begin to add more food into my diet (thank goodness bc i am down to 104 pounds) after doing the intro to gaps diet (great for cleansing and healing the gut) and will be shifting to the Paleo diet modified for me (also not going to include: all nuts except soaked and dehydrated macadamia and walnuts, night shades, yams/sweet potato BUT i DO INCLUDE: LOTS of bone broth, home made probiotic goat yogurt and home made ghee).
The more I read on SCD the more I realized I could not do the legumes or the cheeses, so i needed it to be a bit stricter and the Paleo (modified for me) seemed to work.
I am also introducing Cod Liver Oil, papaya digestive enzymes after my meals and Licorice DGL before my meals, as well as a tea my GI made for me. PLEASE KNOW THIS IS FOR ME and if you are interesting in trying the diet and/or supplements I mention, PLEASE make sure to check in with your naturopath/Gi first. I am NOT a dr, this is not a recommendation
I share what I do in order to motivate you to advocate for yourself, educate yourself and know that there are things our there you can do, along side your western medicine, to find healing BUT always make sure to have that open communication with your GI/Naturopath when trying new things.
I am off to cook for the week Sending love to ALL your bellies ~ Sarah
So nice to meet @againstallgrain Danielle Walker at her book signing for her new #paleo cookbook! If you don’t follow her, you should. She has #ulcerativecolitis herself and shares her story on her blog on how she went from being so sick, at one point on 100mg of pred, to being her beautiful healthy self now and how diet was a big part. She also shared she has a post on her blog written by her naturopath on the other things that they also did to help her gain healing. Beautiful person inside and out! Hope you all are finding inspiration today! X sending love to all your bellies - Sarah #crohns #crohnsdisease #ulcerativecolitis #ostomy #jpouch #paleo #paleorecipe
I want to give a shout out to my #crohniesister. Due to all my health stuff i am navigating I had to tell her I can no longer go to her wedding and this is how she starts her email response to that. “I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! Because, finally, you are putting YOURSELF first. ” I mean, put tears to my eyes because I am so sad that I have to miss it and didn’t want to hurt her feelings but instead her response is full of love and support because she is just amazing. So a big shout out to a very close friend @ssasteph love you girl! Thank you for being you! #crohnsdisease #crohns #ulcerativecolitis #ostomy #love
When an idea becomes a party in my mouth = heaven! I decided to peel and “fry” my sliced apples in coconut oil (like 1/2 tap) and sprinkled a little cinnamon. Once a little browned, flipped and added 1/2 teaspoon of honey, cooked it for 30 seconds and then poured it all into a bowl and drizzled a tablespoon of organic coconut cream. Then on the very top added 4 organic strawberries chopped up and tossed it all together. It was amazing! Did that make sense? lol made me happy #crohnsdisease #crohns #ulcerativecolitis #ostomy #jpouch #paleo #scddiet #sugarfree #paleorecipe

So those with IBD I wanted to share a cliff note summary with my gi doctor yesterday. Humira has stopped working but instead of focusing on that, the one thing she focused on is reducing my stress and need to have my brain on 24/7. She said the one thing they drs fail to look at is our adrenals, cortisol levels and insulin resistance and without balancing those , no amount of drugs or diet with help us gain remission. I love this place for that. On my summary of visit one of the things listed was- Do Less, just Be ;). So even though diet is important, maybe this will resonate with some of u , it is another important part to look at as well, along with getting good sleep and doing things that make us happy. Stress management is so key! #stressmanagement #meditation #beinginnature #remission #Crohns #crohnsdisease #ulcerativecolitis #ostomy #jpouch
